F.A.Q

Why choose sod?
Sod is simply the fastest, easiest way to a beautiful lawn. While there is nothing wrong with seeding your yard and growing the grass over time, there is nothing like the satisfaction of looking out your window and seeing a lush, green lawn. Sod gives you instant results!

Do you guarantee your sod?
Absolutely! Read our warranty information for more details.

Will my sod be fresh?
Yes! Our sod is custom harvested the same day it is delivered, giving you the freshest product possible.

How long will my sod take to deliver?

We make every effort to get your order processed within 24 hours to ensure fast delivery.

Delivering a live product entails much more care in the shipping and handling than a regular packing shipped to a location.

The delivery of your grass can be effected by a number of things including (but not limited to): availability of a type of grass in your state/area, availability of a type of grass during different seasons, growth times at the grass farm, harvesting crew availability, delivery crew availability, weather conditions in your area, delivery equipment availability (i.e. truck, forklift, etc.), delivery equipment malfunction, access into gated communities not granted or other such restricted properties preventing a delivery, delivery restricted areas, previously scheduled deliveries before your preferred delivery date, remote location in reference to the grass farm, coordinating delivery crew to remote locations in reference to the grass farm. Please keep these factors in mind when choosing a preferred date of delivery. We will attempt to have your grass order delivered on your specified preferred delivery date and time entered on the last page of the check out process to the best of our ability however, all final delivery dates and times are subject to approval by grass4sale.com.

How long before I have to install my sod?

Ideally you should install your sod upon arrival. The grass uses the sun to process its food from the soil. While it is stacked on a pallet it isn’t able to do this properly. If your sod arrives late in the day you should start installation early the next morning. Following these guidelines will ensure your sod is healthy and able to transition from our farm to your yard.

What preparations do I need to make before installing my sod?

Proper soil preparation sates time and money in the long run. Loosening the soil surface is beneficial for incorporating fertilizer and facilitates quick root growth from your freshly installed sod. Cultivate the area by roto-tilling or spading to a depth of 4-6 inches. Remove all debris such as roots, wood, large clods and such. It is always best if you have your soil tested for proper pH factor and nutrient deficiencies. You can take a soil sample to your local County Extension office for a soil analysis.

If you are installing sod under large trees, chances are you will have a high acidity level and ag lime should be applied before laying sod. Complete final grading and smoothing by hand raking or tractor-mounted box blade. Be sure to slope soil away from buildings to prevent drainage problems. Roll or water your graded area to settle and firm the surface. This will reveal low areas that require mores soil. Click here for more details.

How often do I need to water my sod?

Water your new sod immediately. Initially, apply at least 1” of water so that he soil underneath is very wet. Pull back a corner of sod to verify your watering is penetrating the underlying soil. Make sure that the water is getting to all the areas of your lawn and that no corners or edges are missed by your sprinklers. Weather conditions will dictate the frequency and amount of water to apply. It is critical to keep the underlying soil moist for two weeks or until your turf is well rooted. Frequent and lighter applications of 1” water daily should be adequate in the absence of rainfall. As the turf becomes more established, begin deeper, less frequent water application to promote deeper rooting and hardier turf. Be sure your new sod has enough moisture to survive hot, cold or dry conditions.

Which sod is best for my yard?

Kentucky bluegrass: most common cool season grass and the most cold resistant. Fine texture, fills in bare spots quickly, requires more mowing, does not do well in shady areas and does not tolerate salt.

Best for drought resistance:
Tall Fescue: low maintenance that offers good drought resistance and better tolerates light traffic.
Bermuda grass: fine texture that tolerates traffic, drought and salt. Does not do well in shade and tends to build up thatch.
Zoysia: slow-growing, dense growth pattern, drought tolerant. Does better with frequent watering. Builds up thatch.
