A native, perennial, warm-season midsized grass. It grows upright and leafy to 1 1/2 ft. tall, with scaly rhizomes, leaves are flat and rough to touch. From 35-55 purplish-colored spikes 1-3 inch wide, spreading or hanging and mostly twisted to one side of the slender axis. Bunch types are common but will form a turf-like cover under grazing. A palatable grass, one of the best liked range grasses in Texas. Matures seed in spring and fall. Cold-tolerant. Size and color of seed may vary from image shown.
