Introduced from West Indies and South America in 1913; selection discovered in Pensacola, Florida in 1935. A warm-season perennial, deep-rooted with short horizontal rhizomes forming dense tough sod. A prolific grower with seed stalks 1-3 ft. tall, long narrow leaves, and approximately 40% growth in lower 4 inches. Survives limited drought, makes little growth without ample moisture but a high producer with good moisture. More cold tolerant than other strains of Bahiagrass.
